The Springs of Citrus County, Florida

A County of Springs in a State Famous for Springs

Florida has more freshwater springs than any other state, and Citrus County is especially rich in these natural features. Because very large volumes of water emerge at a constant temperature all year, the estuaries that receive the outflow feel comparatively warm to manatees. The estuaries of Citrus County play host to this country's largest gathering of manatees.

One of the most popular springs is King Spring, located at the head of the Crystal River. The Homosassa Spring is found within the Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park and offers visitors a year-round look at manatees through the underwater viewing pavilion known as the Fishbowl.

If you've been to Crystal River, you know the most beautiful spot is the Three Sisters Springs. There's currently an effort to purchase and preserve the surrounding property. If you're interested in being a part of this exciting project, visit the
