Citrus County Butterflies: Flutter into Fun

The first attraction of its kind in the area, Homosassa Butterfly opened in mid-January, 2009 and features a 2,500-square-foot enclosed habitat filled with live butterflies. Six different native Florida species can be seen now, with as 20-25 more species to be displayed in coming months. Guests can also see live displays include butterfly eggs, a caterpillar room and a chrysalis room.
The facility also includes a state-of-the-art 34-seat movie room, where visitors can watch educational films on such topics as monarch migration and the life cycle of the butterfly. Plus, information is available on attracting butterflies to one’s home garden.
Homosassa Butterfly has the goal of providing an entertaining and educational experience that leaves visitors with a deep and abiding appreciation for nature and the butterfly population.
Discover the butterfly world on your next visit at Homosassa Butterfly at 6991 West Cardinal Street in Homosassa, not far from Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park. The facility is open 7 days a week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are sold until 4:30 p.m. each day and cost $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and $6 for children aged 3 to 12. Children two and under are admitted free.
