My First Real Fishing Trip

“We’re going to take a shortcut.”

Like most Homosassa fishermen, Captain Ray Markham knows these waters like the back of his hand. But as he turned sharply out of the marked channel I had a sudden feeling of uneasiness.

Although I’ve lived in Florida for ten years, I’ve never been out fishing. Shocking; I know. I fished from a dock when I was a little girl, but being on the open water miles off shore is an experience I’ve never had until today.

“Have you taken this shortcut before?” I asked.

“Nope.”

“Then how do you know you aren’t going to hit something?”

“I don’t.”

We started our day off at the beach in Crystal River and ended w/ a late lunch at the Riverside Resort checking out the monkeys. It was such an enjoyable experience. It made me realize how much I missed out by not taking advantage of the beach while growing up in Crystal River area. I love to take my son there and enjoy it with him! Kayaking Fit for a King

On December 2, 2007, my wife and I took a beautiful kayak trip on Kings Bay in Crystal River. We usually take our trips during the morning hours of the weekend, when the weather is calm and cool. We put in at Hunter Springs Park in Crystal River. The launch is simple, and there is even a designated spot for kayaks—a short lift to the shore from our truck and we’re ready to go. My wife and I bought a Hobie Tandem kayak two years ago and absolutely love the efficiency and maneuverability of its paddle power.
